Roles
Senior Machine Learning Engineer: Ultraleap
2021-2024
I worked on training low-power, on-device vision models for real-time pose tracking, optimizing tradeoffs in model performance, latency, power usage, accuracy, and robustness.
Our hand tracking software is deployed in various commercial settings from AR/VR headsets to touch-free kiosks in airports and Fortune 500 restaurants. As part of the team responsible for creating the models, the main goal was to train better models, and find better ways to train those models. My day to day activities involved reading papers and implementing machine learning experiments for our detection and tracking problems.

Machine Learning Engineer: Ultraleap
2019-2021
I conducted experiments that directly informed model and dataset parameters used in the public release Gemini models. I also created a suite of network evaluation tools which became a fixture in our CI/CD pipeline.

Researcher: MIT Knowledge Futures Group
2018-2019
A graph database + machine learning project on citation graphs, predicting which scientific papers would punch well above their weight. This is a research job I was working at for a few summers at MIT.

Old Jobs
Data Science Intern: Divergent Strategies
2017
Created and implemented a schema for storing social data as a graph using Neo4j for the the spur.io app. I also analyzed tradeoffs of algorithms for content recommendation and wrote code to implement a recommendation engine for the spur.io app using Python.
Data Analysis Intern: Coffee Ambassador
2016
Helped out the sales team by creating a lot of tools to help them do their jobs better, like creating a sales dashboard with KPIs and creating a lead-prioritization algorithm. I also automated the calculation calculation of monthly commission payments using Excel macros, saving over 40 hours of administrative work each year and built a “Turn-Key Proposal System” which saves each member of the sales team up to an hour in turn-around time for each late stage prospect.
President: Honors Student Board, University of San Diego
2015-2016
I was elected to lead the student board of the Honors program at USD, leading a team of 15 by managing ongoing projects and stewarding in new projects on behalf of 400 students in the program.
We printed and sold $750 worth of post cards (with my photography of the campus) in the student store, created of an resume book shared our Honors Alumni Network and held “Tea with President events” with the university president.
Assistant: MSRE program, University of San Diego
2015
I compiled a spreadsheet using five variables to compare our MSRE program to four dozen similar programs, implemented a new system to track changes in alumni professional status and similar information, and updated Dr. Norm Miller’s website using Wordpress.
Managing Editor: Torrey Pines High School Yearbook
2014 - 2015
I restructured our digital filing system, resulting in a program record for the most early days completed and successfully handled payments totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. In my role, I served as a liaison between our staff of over fifty students and our publisher.
Owner and Operator: Tim Holdsworth Photography
2012-2015
This was a cool gig. I would shoot little league games, senior portraits, and real estate photos. I also did a lot of family portraits and holiday cards. Some of my pictures are still up on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/timmyholdsworth/with/12063004814/
I managed everything including marketing, sales, and customer service, which was a lot on top of the editing. I was also able to provide free holiday cards for over a dozen families every year.
